Tuesday, February 7th

Two fingers and an ice cube in the kitchen. It's only early evening, but I am trying my hand at cooking and, as cooking can be lonely, I need a companion. Long has it been since my hands have been involved with food in any way but to bring it from plate to mouth. Butter in pan. Sip. More butter. Two sips. A third scoop, a fourth sip. Are we having anything but butter and bourbon tonight?

Later we find ourselves at a surprise birthday party for a certain Ryan, famed for his height, friendliness, and odd exuberant movements of the arms. We look on as he awkwardly realizes that there are forty people in the room, almost all from different walks of life. How can one even hope to converse?! Then something brilliant happens. The lady comes back to the table with a little glass of booze.
----
What's that?

Wild Turkey.

101 or 81?!

101.

We have Wild Turkey here?

Yes.

I've never seen it!

All I did was ask for it.
----

Oh Lord in Heaven,
God of Sobriety, yes
But also He that gave
"Wine to gladden the hearts of man"
(And we know from scholarship
That Hebrew "wine" meant bourbon).
Protect me now from my own wiles,
For you know how I love the turkey.
And yet you've taught us
To love not the creature, but the creator
It's just so hard some times
Amen
